Why we’re here

We’ve spent a decade crafting places where people reconnect, with themselves, each other and nature. Escape Bathhouse brings that home to Sydney.

Drawing on the world’s great bathhouse traditions and reimagining them through a calm, contemporary Australian lens, we’ve created a grounding space in the heart of Chatswood to step away from the noise of everyday life.

Set inside a restored 1929 landmark on Sydney’s North Shore, it’s heat, water and stillness in a setting made to be shared.

We’re the couple behind the award-winning Sierra Escape in Mudgee, a decade spent creating places where people put down their phones, breathe out, and reconnect with what matters.

After years of welcoming guests into nature, we wanted to bring that same feeling into the city: somewhere close to home where you can dissolve the week, reset your nervous system, and leave feeling like yourself again.

The building

A 1929 landmark, restored

Our home is Seymour’s Building, a Spanish Mission–style icon on the corner of Pacific Highway and William Street. Built in 1929, it has watched over Chatswood for nearly a century, one of the North Shore’s most recognisable landmarks.

We’ve lovingly restored it, honouring the details that make it special: the terracotta tiles, the arched openings, the decorated parapets and the barley-sugar columns. Wherever we could, original features were kept and repaired rather than replaced.

Behind the preserved façade, we’ve reimagined the interiors with natural materials, thoughtful lighting and efficient modern services built to today’s standards. The result is a calm, contemporary bathhouse that respects the building’s history, treads lightly on the planet, and returns a much-loved local icon to the community, alive with purpose again.
